Ahmad is a Principal Design Engineer at Network Rail. He was the lead designer of Network Rail’s R&D funded Flow Bridge, an innovative lightweight low-cost FRP footbridge solution which won 9 awards. A Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, he has over 24 years’ experience of bridge and structures design. His main area of expertise is Bridges, Advanced Finite Element Analysis of Structures, Jetty Structures and Highway Structures Design. Some of the notable projects he has worked on include the Network Rail’s Flow Bridge where he was the Lead Designer, Greater Bargoed Regeneration Scheme, Hinkley Point C Aggregate Jetty Bridge and JC Decaux, the Torch Display Tower in London. At Network Rail, Ahmad is one of the lead designers in Network Rail responsible for reviewing designs nationally from feasibility to detailed design to improve efficiencies, constructability, and innovation. He is currently working on a new Network Rail Standard Design modular FRP Footbridge Design based in the design principles for Flow Bridge to cater for accessibility for all to be utilised in Station and non-station environments.
