I am a Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and have spent all my 35 years in construction working for civil engineering contractors, initially on site then with responsibility for temporary works procedures, training and design. Then more recently as an Engineering Director with functional responsibility for a range of technical disciplines including quality, design management, digital construction and planning. I have always been active in the recruitment and development of trainee, graduate and apprentice civil engineers. I have been a Supervising Civil Engineer for 25 years, I am Lead SCE for my company’s ICE Training Scheme, and I have been a Reviewer for the ICE for 15 years. I have delivered temporary works lectures at a couple of universities and have also been a member of the Industry Advisory Board for two university civil engineering departments.
