Impact in Energy

This award recognises consulting firms within the construction and civil engineering industry that provide services within the energy sector. Entrants can either be specialised divisions within a larger organisation or consultants who focus on energy as a core part of their business. The award will celebrate a specialist business division or firm that has continually delivered innovation, quality and value over the last 18 months, while growing in terms of revenue, profits and staff numbers.

Arup and UK Power Networks

Arup, in partnership with UK Power Networks (UKPN), have collaborated on a groundbreaking initiative aimed at automating infrastructure inspections in the energy sector. Through the deployment of cutting-edge robotic solutions and innovative data analytics powered by deep learning, the project significantly enhances the efficiency and accuracy of asset assessments while minimizing human exposure to hazardous environments. Arup's web-based digital platform, Loupe360, serves as the central hub for data integration and analysis, providing actionable insights for informed decision-making. With projected annual cost savings exceeding £162,000 initially and rising to over £324,000 by 2028, coupled with improved health, safety and welfare standards, this initiative promises transformative benefits for UKPN and the wider community, ensuring enhanced service continuity and cost-effectiveness across the network.

AtkinsRéalis

AtkinsRéalis has extensive international expertise across the energy sector and is uniquely positioned through breadth of skills and experience to address the energy transition challenge. During 2023 we have played key roles in most of the UK's strategic energy infrastructure projects including, Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, UK Atomic Energy Authority's STEP fusion program and Rolls-Royce’s Small Modular Reactor development. Combining digital advances with traditional engineering expertise is allowing us to harness the power of data and technology to implement innovative solutions for our clients.  A commitment to innovation and the goal of Engineering Net Zero are at the heart of our operations and values.

Wardell Armstrong

Wardell Armstrong’s Renewables Engineering Team has been created to focus on engineering design support and consultancy for offshore wind and other renewable energy projects due to our successful project delivery and expanding workload. To date we have contributed to offshore wind projects with a combined installation capacity >12GW. WA works as a proactive and integrated part of clients’ project teams in a collaborative and constructive manner. This provides the team with understanding of engineering constraints present, key decisions, lessons learnt from other projects and for relationships to be built with the teams, allowing collaboration to achieve the best project outcomes. WA’s innovative approach also combines skills, knowledge and experience in civil, geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering alongside experience in environmental assessment. This allows an informed ‘top down’ approach, with progressively increasing consideration of geohazards and other constraints and developing the engineering design throughout the site selection and design process.
