John is a Chartered Surveyor with over 25 years’ experience of complicated large-scale mixed-use property development including schemes incorporating railway stations.
In Hong Kong MTR have spent 45 years building and operating railways. They also develop property above stations to help subsidise the cost of the railway – this is known as their Rail + Property model. To date, MTR have delivered over 100m sq ft of rail related property development with a further pipeline of around 35m sq ft. In the UK MTR currently operate the Elizabeth Line and are part of the team that run SWR.
John joined MTR 5 years ago to expand the Rail + Property model into the UK. MTR UK has now formed a joint venture with Sellar (who delivered the Shard) and have recently submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of Liverpool Street Station. Working with NR and other stakeholders the proposals will deliver a new and much expanded station at no cost to the taxpayer in return for the air rights above for a super prime office building and hotel.
John was previously Development Director for Muse Developments (part of Morgan Sindall), worked for Kier on their Solum JV with NR and prior to that ran developments for ING Real Estate, part of the Dutch bank.
